Semantics about Antonymy

We have known that an antonymy is the opposite of meaning between a word and the other word in the same part of speech, and we have known some word has the opposite.
and do you want to know about some opposite words? Arnold L. Glass, Keith J. Holyoak and John I. Kiger discuss about antonymy based on experiment metodology.

Types of antonymy

1.      Gradable antonymy
Gradable antonymy is a general antonymy, and can be measured .
Example:   dry - wet
                  Young -old
                  Easy – difficult
                  Big – small

            2.complementary antonymy
Complementary antonymy is the meaning of the word is absolute.
                 Example:    on - off
                                    Yes - no
                                    Male - female
3.Relational antonymy
This type is between two words have relation, and there is not positive and negative  from word this type only the relation.
   Example :     husband - wife
                        Parent - child
                        Teacher – student
4.Multiple antonymy
This type is about word has more than one opposition, it is mean one word has the opposite, and not only one opposite.
Example : the opposite of happy, can be sad, angry, disappointed, or disgruntled.

Strengness and weakness of this article is :
This article has many example and easy to understand and from it we can know some opposite word, furthermore there are some explanation of the language difficult to understand.

conclusion
word is not only have synonym but have antonym also, but not all words have an antonym, antonymy has types, and not only one type.

Semantics about Antonymy

Antonymy is oppositeness of meaning between a word and the other word or among words in the same part of speech, Arnold L. Glass Rutgers, Keith J. Holyoak and John I. Kiger Rutgers discuss thi article on a Antonymy. This article attemt at analysing antonymy In Experiment 1 false sentences involving the direct antonyms and indirect antonyms, and Experiment 2 also investigated the degree of semantic facilitation obtained for category-instance word pairs.
This article from used the experiment methodology, it is expected that readers of this paper language will improve.

false sentences involving the direct antonyms and indirect antonyms
sentences or word pairs involving direct (e.g., boy-girl) or indirect (e.g., boy-sister), Three distinct predictions can be made about the outcome of a verification experiment using such sentences. First, note that the direct antonyms (e.g., brother-sister) are if anything more similar in meaning than the indirect antonyms (e.g., brother-female), since both pairs of concepts differ on the gender dimension
Antonymy set

Direct antonyms
girl-boy, woman-man, female-male, sister-brother, queen-king, aunt-uncle,

Indirect antonyms
girl-brother woman-king female-uncle sister-boy queen-man aunt-male

Word
Direct antonymy
Indirect antonymy
girl
Boy
Brother
boy
Girl
Sister

investigated the degree of semantic facilitation obtained for category-instance word pairs.
theoretical contrast that has emerged in models of semantic memory involves the processes by which people evaluate sentences asserting semantic rela- tions such as category membership (e.g., A rose is a flower). Feature models assume that such decisions are based on a compari- son of elementary features or attributes that define the subject and predicate concept
Strengness and weakness of this article is :
excess of this article has a lot of explanation about the antonymy in the semantics with a variety of many examples, furthermore there are some examples of the language difficult to understand.

conclusion
meaning is not only equality but there is a difference of meaning as well. Antonymy is not only about opposite of word and meaning, but there are the direct and indirect word also.

Semantics of contrast and semantic opposition

contrast is considered a major category in information organization, evidenced by its inclusion in almost all major taxonomies of rhetorical relations, from analysis methodology that according  (e.g. Hobbs 1990, Martin 1992, Mann and Thompson 1988, Asher and Lascarides 2003). Since Lako (1971), two types of contrast are generally recognized, denial of expectation (1) and semantic opposition (2):

(1) It’s raining but I’m taking an umbrella
(2) John is tall but Bill is short. (Lako 1971: 133)

Chaer (2007: 299) describes " antonym or antonym is the semantic relationship between the two units of speech whose meaning stating the opposite, opposition, or the contrast between one another".

Faizah (2010: 74) explains that the antonym is a relation between the words to the contrary or opposite meanings. Antonyms term used for the opposition standard lexical meaning in pairs, like heat with a cold. Antonyms is called standard because of the heat with cold still other words such a warm and lukewarm. The Expressive Creativity of Euphemism and Dysphemism

Meguel Casas Gomez attempted to define the expressive creativity of euphemism and dysphemis . He defined Euphemism and dysphemism are two cognitive processes of conceptualisation, with countervalent effects (having the same base and resources but different aims and purposes), Euphemism and Dysphemism have different goal, These conflicting emotions and antagonistic feelings facilitate the existence of dysphemistic euphemisms and euphemistic dysphemisms.
excess of this article is the comprehensive explanation so not only in one field only, but lacking simplify the explanation and examples so it is not too easy to understand.
Meguel thoughtful inclusion brings useful philosophical insight for other researchers.
